A baby’s laughter is one of the most beautiful sounds you will ever hear. Unless it’s 3am. And you’re home alone. And you don’t have a baby.

Gene-for-Gene Theory
Pathogens have ‘associated molecular patterns’ which are may be sensed by the plant triggering a hypersensitive response. The products which come from pathogens are known as elicitors because they a recognised by the plants receptor; often on the leaf surface.  The gene coding of the elicitor is known as the avirulance gene. Pathogens without these structures are able to colonize host plants. However there are a large amount of dominant resistance genes found in plants that are used to identify avirulence structures. However without genes coding for the receptors the plant will be susceptible to infection.
